3 Eras of Law. Kupe, Cook & Beyond. Clip 5 Pre-Colonial Māori Society

This video is inspired by 3 Māori Sirs; Justice Sir Joe Williams, Sir Hīrini Moko Mead and Sir Pou Temara. Dividing Aotearoa New Zealand’s Law into 3 Eras, was the inspired idea of Tā Joe Williams. Some basics of tikanga are taken from the works of Tā Hirini Moko Mead and Tā Pou Temara. This is a video clip from a longer video about pre-colonial Māori society, that is intended to help the viewer better appreciate Te Tiriti o Waitangi | The Treaty of Waitangi, and its history, significance, and relevance to Aotearoa New Zealand’s past, present and future, and all the tensions associated with it. Dr Kiri Prentice (Tūhoe, Ngāti Awa) is a consultant psychiatrist who is the Deputy Clinical Director Māori of Mental Health Services at Te Whatu Ora Counties Manukau, the Deputy Medical Director Māori of Te Pātaka Whaioranga – Pharmac, and a Professional Teaching Fellow at The University of Auckland.
